Dharawal Country

We honour and respect all Elders and Traditional Custodians of the lands the Botanic Gardens of Sydney stand on.

The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is on the traditional country of the Dharawal people. The site was an important meeting place for Aboriginal peoples from Nations as far north as Maroochydore, to as far south as Melbourne. Aboriginal peoples would meet here to make laws, settle disputes, trade, arrange marriages and corroboree.

The lyrebird is the totem of the Dharawal people and is a symbol of peace and reconciliation.

Take a journey through the site's past.
