The HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, a truly unique city running experience through the beating heart of Sydney CBD, is recognised as Australia’s premier Half Marathon, held since 1992. The 10km race commences at 6:20 am on Cahill Espressway, with the half marathon commencing at 6:40 am and finishes at the Domain Sydney.

What is the event?

The HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon on Sunday 4 May 2025 is recognised as Australia’s premier Half Marathon, held since 1992. The 10km race commences at 6.20 am on Cahill Espressway, with the half marathon commencing at 6.40am with course cut-off at 12.30 am at The Domain, Sydney. All times subject to change. The event raises money for a variety of charities.

Which areas of the Domain will be impacted by this event and when?

Bump in/out of the Expo & Event Village will take place in The Domain from Wednesday 30 April – Monday 5 May 2025. Temporary detours may be put in place for public safety.

HOKA Runaway Sydney Check-In & Sports Expo to take place in The Domain Sydney from 7.00 am – 7.00 pm Friday 2 May, and from 8.00 am – 4.00 pm Saturday 3 May 2025.

Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquarie’s Road will be closed from 5.00 am until 1.00 pm on Sunday 4 May 2025. Event Village will operate in the Domain during event.

I am not attending the event, will I still be able to access the Garden and Domain on the event day/s?

Yes, pedestrian access to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain will be maintained at all times with marshals in place to guide pedestrians to crossing points along the course.

On the event day, there will be some necessary traffic and access restrictions in place for safety reasons.

What will the traffic and access impacts be?

The Garden and Domain will be open for all visitors and spectators on event day.  However, some necessary changes will be in place such as road closures and parking for safety reasons.

Road Closures:

  • Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road will be closed from 5.00 am to 1.00 pm. No parking will be permitted during these times and access is restricted to authorised event staff and stakeholders with valid ID/passes.
  • Hospital Road will be altered to a temporary two-way traffic arrangement from 5.00 am – 12.30 pm. Entry and exit will be via Prince Albert Rd only, under traffic control.
  • External road closures and clearways are planned in the Sydney CBD to facilitate this event. For the latest traffic information visit www.livetraffic.com.

Parking restrictions / parking availability: Public parking on Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquarie’s Road will be available from 1.00 pm on event day.

Parking is available in Domain Carpark on the event day, open all day.

Mobility Pass Holder access: No access or mobility parking during road closure periods between 5.00 am and 1.00 pm. During these closure periods, parking is available in Domain Carpark open all day.

Gate Closures: Gates will be open as per normal operating hours.

Footpath Closures: Pedestrian access to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain will be maintained at all times with marshals in place to guide pedestrians to crossing points along the course.

Will the Terrace in the Domain & Terrace Kiosk / Botanic House & The Eatery restaurant be open as usual?

Yes, both venues will open as usual.

Will the Bar Coco at Mrs Macquaries Point still be operating?

Yes. 

Will the Garden Shop still be operating?

Yes. 

Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?

This is a community sporting event which creates only minimal noise around the course and entertainment and announcements in The Domain village. Sound check from 6.15 am and event sound from 6.30 am to 1.00 pm on Sunday 4 May 2025.

The Event Hotline number for this event is: (02) 9231 8330 and will be operational Thursday 1 April from 4.00pm – 5.00pm for sound checks, and Sunday 4 May from 6.15 am until 1.00 pm for event.

A sound check will take place Thursday 1 May from 4.00 pm – 5.00 pm. Note low level ambient background music will be played at the expo in Domain Friday 2 May 7.00 am – 7.00 pm, and Saturday 3 May 8.00 am – 4.00 pm.
