Accessibility at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

The Botanic Gardens of Sydney welcomes all visitors to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

This page provides accessibility information for the Garden. Most areas are accessible by walker or wheelchair.

Parking and drop offs

On-street parking

Mobility parking is available near the Woolloomooloo Gate and outside the Art Gallery of New South Wales. 

In the event there are no available mobility parking bays, vehicles displaying a valid Mobility Parking Scheme permit are permitted to park in any available parking bay free of charge. This includes Mrs Macquaries Road and Hospital Road.


Toilets

Wheelchair accessible toilets are located at the Visitor Centre, Mare and Foal Lawn and The Calyx.


Entering and exiting the Garden

The accessible gates are:

  • Morshead Fountain gate
  • Woolloomooloo gate (side entrance from Access Road)
  • Victoria Lodge gate
  • Yurong gate
  • Opera House gate (via Sydney Opera House forecourt)
  • Queen Elizabeth II gate (via Sydney Opera House forecourt)
  • Conservatorium gate
  • Government House gate

 

If you're visiting The Calyx, the closest accessible gates are Woolloomooloo gate or Government House gate.

  • Rathborne Lodge (enter via Access Road, accessible toilet)
  • Lion Gate Lodge (accessible toilet)
  • The Calyx (accessible toilet)
  • Palm House (all toilets 100 metres away)
  • Maiden Theatre (enter by arrangement via courtyard, no accessible toilet)
  • Botanic Gardens Restaurant (accessible toilet) & Cafe
  • Bennelong Lawn (no toilets)
  • Palace Rose Garden (accessible toilet)

Assistance animals

We welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs in the Garden.

Under the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust Regulations, assistance animals are permitted within the gardens on the condition that they are properly documented under Commonwealth legislation and there is evidence of such classification.

This is done by presentation of such evidence to the Trust officer or Ranger on request. In the absence of any such documentation, pets are required to be removed from the Garden.

Book a wheelchair

We have a wheelchair available for use within the Garden free of charge. It can be picked up from and returned to The Calyx, Monday to Sunday 10am to 4pm. Please organise booking of the wheelchair before your visit by calling 9231 8188.
