Mother’s Day Classic

Mother’s Day Classic celebrates its 27th anniversary this year and is a nation-wide community event that raises funds and awareness for breast and ovarian cancer through participation, fun, fitness and health.

Support lifesaving breast and ovarian cancer research

Start your Mother's Day with purpose and show support for a cause that affects so many.

Participants can elect for funds raised to go towards either or both, the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. There will be with food, coffee, entertainment, activations and information on breast and ovarian cancer research.

The 5km and 10km run and walk courses start and finish in the Phillip Precinct, The Domain and includes Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd, as well as the following Sydney CBD roadways: Macquarie St, College St, St James Rd and Prince Albert Rd.

The event village will be open from 6am to 12pm, with up to 7,500 participants expected to participate.

Which areas of The Domain are impacted by this event and when?

The Mother’s Day Classic event village will be located in Phillip Precinct, The Domain Sydney with 5km and 10km road courses along Art Gallery Roads and Mrs Macquaries Road, as well as Sydney CBD roads including Macquarie Street, Prince Albert Road, St James and College Street.  

As this is a major event, the site will be marked out and some sections of The Domain will be temporarily closed off to the public for safety reasons. However, pedestrian access will be maintained on pathways around these areas. Bump in will commence on Friday 9 May 2024 and the site will be returned to public access in the afternoon of Monday 13 May 2024.

I am not attending the event, will I still be able to access The Domain/Botanic Garden on the event day/s?

Yes, pedestrian access to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and The Domain Sydney will be maintained at all times with marshals in place to guide pedestrians to crossing points along the course. On the event day, there will be some necessary traffic and access restrictions in place for safety reasons. 

What will the traffic and access impacts be?

The Garden and The Domain will be open for all visitors and spectators on event day. However, some necessary changes will be in place such as road closures and parking restrictions for safety reasons.

Road closures: 

  • Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road will be closed from 5am to 12pm on the event day, Sunday 12 May 2024. No parking will be permitted during these times and access is restricted to authorised event staff and stakeholders with valid Staff ID or if required authorised vehicle access permit up to 6am. No vehicle access in or out of Art Gallery Road will be permitted after 6am.
  • Hospital Road will be open to two-way traffic from 5am to 12pm from Shakespeare Place only (via Cahill Expressway from the east) for authorized vehicles with vehicle access pass, including emergency services. There will be no access from Art Gallery Road. A clearway will be in operation on Hospital Road.
  • External road closures and clearways are planned in the Sydney CBD to facilitate this event. For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com

Gate closures: 

Gates will be open as per normal operating hours.

Footpath closures:

Parking restrictions/availability: 

Public parking on Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road will be available from 12pm on the event day, Sunday 12 May 2024. 

Parking is available in the Domain Carpark (operated by Wilson Parking). For prices visit: The Domain Car Park. Note: Access to The Domain Carpark is best coming via Riley Street or Sir John Young Crescent.

Mobility Pass Holder access

No access or mobility parking during road closure periods between 5am and 12pm. During these closure periods, parking is available in the Domain Carpark (operated by Wilson Parking). For prices visit: The Domain Car Park

Will Terrace on the Domain and Botanic House be open as usual?

Yes, both venues will open as usual.

Will the Garden Shop still be operating?

Yes. 

Will Bar Coco still be operating?

Yes. 

Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?

The Mother’s Day Classic is not a music event. However, there will be amplified sound and music as part of the event atmosphere.

Sound checks and event sound times will take place at the following times:

  • Sound checks will occur on the afternoon of Saturday 11 May between 3pm and 5pm 
  • Event sound 6am to 12pm on Sunday 12 May 2024
