Sitting in a special corner of the Garden, the memorial was erected in 2009 by the Australian and NSW Governments to commemorate the distressing experiences of those who grew up in orphanages, children's homes and other institutions last century. This corner of the Garden is dedicated to their memory and is detached from passing visitors to allow for privacy and peaceful contemplation.
