A representative set of herbarium specimens images accessible online, supporting rapid identification of high–risk weeds.

Twenty–eight weeds are considered Prohibited Matter in NSW: the highest level of biosecurity risk. To help prevent these weeds from ever establishing in our State, the National Herbarium of NSW supports their rapid detection and identification by maintaining reference specimens and linked resources, available below.

All digital specimen images link to a high–resolution version that can be zoomed in to see fine details of the plant.

The genus Pilosella was previously included in the genus Hieracium L. (~4600 species). The entire genus Pilosella as currently accepted (~260 species) is Prohibited Matter, including P.aurantiaca (L.) F.W.Schultz & Sch.Bip. subsp. aurantiaca, P. officinarum Vaill. subsp. officinarum (both known to occur in NSW), and P. piloselloides subsp. bauhinii (Schult.) S.Bräut. & Greuter (not known to occur in NSW but found in Victoria).
