Explore art and nature

During the workshop, you will be given an example of main morphological groups of fungi and explained the difference in their morphology and ecology. Anna will demonstrate different watercolour techniques that can be used in botanical art and explain the difference in materials and styles. Students will learn how to produce an initial drawing of selected fungi, what to include in composition, and how to produce an eye catching and aesthetically pleasing botanical watercolour of fungi.

Includes refreshments and lunches each day in the beautiful surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Materials list
•    Paints: professional quality watercolour paints (e.g. Winsor &Newton, Sennelier, White Nights, Daniel Smith, or any other brand). 
•    Watercolour brushes: quality sable or synthetic brushes with good points. Anna usually uses no. 000, no. 00, no.4 or no.3, no.6 or near these and a flat brush for lifting up the paint.
•    Paper: a sketchbook for preliminary drawing or a drawing paper with smooth surface (e.g. Arttec Como sketch pad 210 gsm, Fabriano, Canson drawing paper), and a hot-pressed watercolour paper 300 gsm or more. Examples: Arches Satine HP 300 gsm, Canson Moulin Dy Roy HP 300gsm, Canson Heritage HP 300 gsm, Bockingford HP 300 gsm. Pencils: 3H, HB and 3B (if you have, please bring the whole set). 
•    Kneadable eraser
•    Ruler
•    White plate for mixing paints
•    Jar
•    Tissue to wipe brushes

About Anna

Anna Voytsekhovich holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Ecology, and a PhD in Botany. She is a professional scientist, scientific illustrator, botanical artist and wildlife illustrator. A member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia and Florilegium Society of Australasia, she exhibits and takes part in organising Australian and international botanical exhibitions.

Her artworks and scientific illustrations are well known and very often highly commended during various events and exhibitions (Margaret Flockton Awards 2021, Flora: The Art and Science of the Plant 2019). Anna currently resides in Sydney and works on restoring critically endangered plant communities as a professional botanist and bush regenerator.

This is a three-day workshop, refreshments and lunches each day in the beautiful surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens are included.
