TCS Sydney Marathon

The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS Abbott World Major Marathon, is back on Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August 2026. The event will see a total of 51,000 participants across the two day event, including 41,000 runners in the Sydney Marathon 42.195km expected to take on the iconic route while 10,000 Sydney Mini Marathon 5km runners expected.

Run one of the world's most scenic marathon courses, taking in some of Sydney's most spectacular and historic landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House which will provide a truly memorable experience for all participants this year.

Saturday 29 August 
TCS Sydney Mini Marathon (5km course) will start on Macquarie Street, CBD location and finish on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House.

Sunday 30 August 
TCS Sydney Marathon (42.195km course) will start at MiIlers Street, North Sydney Oval and will cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the event finishing at Sydney Opera House.

The running route includes Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquarie's Road.

All participants will make their way from the finish line into the Recovery Village held in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Tarpeian Precinct of The Domain Sydney. The Recovery Village will operate from Saturday 29 August from 6am-11 am and Sunday 30 August from 7 am - 4 pm.

As both the Mini Marathon and Marathon comes through The Domain Sydney, there will be some operational changes in place. These are detailed below. This event is the sole remaining legacy race from the Sydney 2000 Olympics Games. It is the only running event in Australia to be broadcasted live each year, with participants from over 120 countries running in 2026. The event has raised more than $36.2 for charitable organisations since it's inception.

Venues within the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and The Domain Sydney include: Tarpeian Precinct, Bennelong Precinct, Gate J - Queen Elizabeth II Gate), Opera House Gate - Gate H), Gate D - Government House Gate), Gate C — Conservatorium Gate, Gate B - Palace Garden Gate, Lawn 44, Lawn 54a, Lawn 55, Lawn 57, Lawn 58 (Parade Grounds), Lawn 59, Lawn 60, Lawn 62, Lawn 63, Rose Garden, Yurong Precinct, Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd.

Bump in will commence from 7am on Monday 24 August 2026 and the site will be returned to public access on Wednesday 2 September afternoon. Some areas will be marked out and temporarily closed off to the public for safety reasons. Pedestrian access will be maintained on pathways and where necessary for pathway to be temporarily closed an alternative route will be facilitated.

The TSC Sydney Mini Marathon and TCS Sydney Marathon course includes the Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road. Bump in will commence from Wednesday 26 August and the site will be returned to public on Monday 31 August late afternoon.

These roads will have operational changes on Saturday 29 August until 10am and Sunday 30 August until 4.30pm on event days. Please see more details below.
 

Saturday 29 August – TCS Sydney Mini Marathon

On event day, Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd will be closed from 4am-10am. Vehicles will not be able to enter until after roads reopen from 10 am.

There will be special event clearways in place from 2 am - 10 am to ensure no vehicles park on Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd. Vehicles parked within road closure will be towed at owner's expense.

Sunday 30 August – TCS Sydney Marathon

On event day, Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd will be closed from 4 am - 4.30pm. Vehicles will not be able to enter until after roads reopen from 4.30pm.

There will be special event clearways in place from midnight-10am to ensure no vehicles park on Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd. Vehicles parked within road closure will be towed at owner's expense.

Art Gallery & Mrs Macquaries Roads closed from 4am-10am

• No parking will be permitted during these times. Access is restricted to authorised event staff and suppliers with valid staff ID and authorised vehicle access permit between 4am-6:30am.
• No vehicle access in or out will be permitted after 6:30am.
• Please access via St Mary's Rd from the east via Sir John Young Crescent, Yurong Pkwy and Riley St only due to other road closures in the CBD operating from 4am-10am.
• A clearway is in place from 2am-10am on Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd to ensure vehicles do not park overnight on these roads. Vehicles and motorbikes parked within these roads will be towed at owner's expense.

Hospital Road - operates as two way from 6:30am-9:30am

• Two-way entry/exit access to Hospital Rd via Shakespeare Place operates from 6:30am-9:30am (under traffic control) via Sir John Young Crescent and Eastern Distributor from the east.
• All Hospital staff and suppliers requiring vehicle access to buildings in Hospital Rd require company photo ID and authorised vehicle access permit to enter.
• A clearway is in place from 2am-10am on Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd to ensure vehicles do not park overnight on these roads. Vehicles and motorbikes parked within these roads will be towed at owner's expense.

Note: Access to The Domain Carpark is best via St Mary’s Rd from the east via Sir John Young Crescent, Yurong Pkwy and Riley Street due to other road closures in the CBD operating from 4am – 10am.

Sunday 30 August – TSC Sydney Marathon

• Parking on Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Road will be available from 4:30pm.

Gate Closures

Saturday 29 August – TCS Sydney Mini Marathon

• Queen Elizabeth II Gates - Gate J - Queen Elizabeth II Gate & Opera House Gate Opera House Gate - Gate H), will be closed all day from 7am – 5:30pm to facilitate the Mini Marathon finish walk off zone. There will be no direct access between Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney via these gates.
• Government House Gates - Gate D - Government House Gate, closed to the public until 10am to facilitate the start of run course (subject to the conditions of the day).
• During above gate closure times, please use Conservatorium Gates - Gate C — Conservatorium Gate to enter and exit the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney as nearest gates to access the Sydney Marathon Recovery Village. 
• All other Gates will be open as per normal operating hours.

Sunday 30 August – TSC Sydney Marathon

• Queen Elizabeth II Gate - Gate J - Queen Elizabeth II Gate & Opera House Gate Opera House Gate - Gate H), will be closed all day from 7am – 5:30pm to facilitate the Marathon finish walk off zone. There will be no direct access between Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney via these gates.
• Palace Garden Gates - Gate B — Palace Garden Gate | Botanic Gardens of Sydney, will operate as an exit only gate from 7am – 4pm to leave the Recovery Village and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney (subject to conditions of the day).
• Conservatorium Gates - (Gate C - Conservatorium Gate), will operate as an exit only gate from 7am – 4pm to leave the Recovery Village and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney (subject to conditions of the day).
• Government House Gates - Gate D - Government House Gate, will operate as an entry only gate from 7am – 4pm as nearest access into the Recovery Village and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney (subject to conditions of the day).
• All other Gates will be open as per normal operating hours for entry and exiting the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Footpath Closures

• Pedestrian access to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and The Domain Sydney will be maintained at all times and where necessary to close a footpath an alternative route will be facilitated.  On the event days, there will be some necessary traffic and access restrictions in place for safety and event operational reasons.
• The Art Gallery to Domain pedestrian crossing will be closed during these times below during the peak period when runners are on course.
• Saturday 29 August between 7am – 8.45am (subject to conditions of the day)
• Sunday 30 August between 7.30am – 3pm (subject to conditions of the day)
• Volunteer marshals and security will be in place to help guide pedestrians to designated crossing points along the course on event days.

Low level audio for announcements during the race and small stage activations will be located in the Recovery Village: Tarpeian Precinct, Bennelong Lawn, Lawn 62 and Parade Ground Precincts.

Entertainment and small stage activations will be located on the running route along Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd. This is localised sound directed at runners on course.

Sound checks will be carried out on Friday 28 August from 2pm-4pm and Saturday 29 August from 2pm - 4pm.

Event sound will be carried out on Saturday 29 August from 6am-12pm and Sunday 30 August from 7am - 4:30pm.
