Learn about common plants that produce natural dyes and explore simple, creative dyeing techniques.
Cosy up at Rathborne Lodge for this hands-on winter workshop where participants will learn about common plants that produce natural dyes and explore simple, creative dyeing techniques.
This artist-led workshop introduces the beautiful and ancient practice of botanical dyeing. Using plant material gathered from the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, participants will create their own naturally dyed and eco printed silk scarf — a unique and wearable piece shaped by the colours and textures of the season.
Along the way, you’ll learn about plants that produce natural colour, the basics of preparing fibres for dyeing, and accessible techniques that can be easily continued at home.
Perfect for beginners and anyone curious about slow craft, sustainability, and working creatively with plants. All materials are provided.
This workshop is part of our seasonal program, inspired by the winter garden and our living collection of plants from around the world.
Recommended for ages 16+.
