In search of Susannah Jennifer Lane and Cathy Lane exhibition

Jennifer spent many years researching Susannah’s life in England and her transportation to New South Wales in 1802–1803. Through extensive research, imaginative reconstructions, and historical context, Jennifer crafted a compelling narrative that intertwines Susannah’s journey with her own as a researcher.

Jennifer’s daughters, Cathy and Elizabeth, contributed to the project, with Cathy producing original artworks inspired by their 2024 research trip to London. These illustrations bring Susannah’s story to life and form a central part of the exhibition.

The project honours the resilience and contributions of female convicts like Susannah, who helped shape early Australian society. It aims to bring forgotten women’s stories to light for a new generation through literature and visual art.

​The book will be available for sale at the venue. There are 39 artworks, 3 sculptures and 20 original unique prints for sale.
