The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, Abbott World Marathon Major, is back on Saturday 30 August and Sunday 31 August 2025. The event will see a total of 51,800 participants across the 2 day event, including 35,000 in the Sydney Marathon 42.195km expected to take on the iconic Sydney route.

The Sydney Marathon (42.195km) and (10km) will start at Millers Street, North Sydney Oval and will cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the (42.195km) event finishing at the Sydney Opera House and (10km) event finishing at the Conservatorium of Music. The Sydney Mini Marathon (5km) will start on Macquarie Street, CBD location and finish on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House.
This event is the sole remaining legacy race from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. It is the only running event in Australia to be broadcast live each year, with participants from over 120 countries running in 2025. The event has raised over $28 million dollars for charitable organisations since its inception.

All participants will make their way to the Recovery Village in the Tarpeian Precinct (off Macquarie Street) of The Domain Sydney. The Recovery Village will operate from Saturday 30 August from 6am – 12pm and Sunday 31 August 2025 from 7am – 4pm.
As the Marathon comes through The Domain Sydney, there will be some operational changes in place. These are detailed below. Road closures and clearways will be in place in the wider CBD area and surrounding suburbs along the course. For more road closures details visit www.livetraffic.com.

Venues within Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and The Domain Sydney are included in the Sydney Marathon event: Tarpeian Precinct, Bennelong Lawn, Queen Elizabeth II Gate, Government House Gate, Lawn 44, Lawn 54a, Lawn 57, Lawn 59, Lawn 60, Lawns 62/63, Parade Ground Lawn 58, Crescent Precinct, Yurong Precinct, Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd.
Bump in will commence from 7am on Monday 25 August 2025 and the site will be returned to public access late afternoon on Tuesday 2 September 2025. Some areas will be marked out and temporarily closed off to the public for safety reasons. Pedestrian access will be maintained on pathways and where necessary an alternative route will be facilitated.
The Marathon incorporates Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road. Some areas will be marked out and temporarily closed off to the public for safety reasons. Bump in will commence on Wednesday 27 August 2025 and the site will be returned to public access late afternoon Monday 1 September 2025.

On event day, Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road will be closed from
6.30am – 9.30am. Vehicles will not be able to enter until roads have reopened.
There will be a special event clearway in place from 2am – 10am to ensure no vehicles park on Art Gallery Rd, Mrs Macquaries Rd and Hospital Rd. Please do not park overnight on these roads. Vehicles parked within the road closure will be towed at the owner’s expense.

• No parking will be permitted during these times. Access is restricted to authorised event staff and suppliers with valid Staff ID and authorised vehicle access permit between 4am – 6.30am.
• No vehicle access in or out of Art Gallery Road will be permitted after 6.30am. Please access via St Mary’s Rd from the east via Sir John Young Cres and Yurong Pkwy only due to other road closures in the CBD operating from 4am – 10am.
• Please note a clearway is in place from 2am – 10am on Art Gallery Road, Mrs Macquaries Road and Hospital Rd to ensure vehicles do not park on these roads. Do not park overnight on these roads. Vehicles and motorbikes parked within the road closure will be towed at the owner’s expense.

• Two-way entry/exit access to Hospital Rd via Shakespeare Place in place from 6.30am – 9.30am (under traffic control) via Sir John Young Crescent from the east.
• All Hospital Staff and suppliers requiring vehicle access to buildings on Hospital Road require company photo ID and authorised vehicle access permit to enter.

• Queen Elizabeth II Gate & Opera House Gate will be closed from 7am – 6pm to facilitate the Marathon finish walk off zone. There will be no direct access between Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney via these Gates.
• Government House Gate will be closed to public from 7am – 12pm (to be confirmed closer to the event) to facilitate the 10km finish walk off zone.
• During above gate closure times, please use Conservatorium Gate to enter and exit the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney to access the Sydney Marathon Recovery Village. All other Gates will be open as per normal operating hours.

• Pedestrian access to Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and The Domain Sydney will be maintained at all times and where necessary an alternative route will be facilitated. On the event days, there will be some necessary traffic and access restrictions in place for safety and event operational reasons.
• The Art Gallery to Domain pedestrian crossing will be closed during these times below during the peak period when runners are on course:
- Saturday 30 August 2025 between 7am – 8.45am (to be confirmed closer to the event).
- Sunday 31 August 2025 between 7.30am – 3pm (to be confirmed closer to the event).
• Volunteer marshals and security will be in place to help guide pedestrians to designated crossing points along the course on event days.
